Our vets are approachable and experienced, and have interests which range across many areas of medicine and surgery. As caring pet owners themselves they are all approachable and compassionate and understand how important pets are in our family lives.
Alan Lack is the only vet in Cheltenham to hold the prestigious RCVS Advanced Practitioner status, and we have 3 other members of the team working towards this high level of expertise.
Most importantly, our vets are caring pet owners, always offering the same level of expert diligence and care to their patients as they would to their own.
- Matthew Rayner BVetMed MRCVS is a Partner and one of our small animal vets . Matt qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1996 and immediately started working at Dragon vets in Cheltenham. Matt enjoys treating all species and has a particular interest in surgery. Matt has a Rottweiler and Border Terrier dogs and enjoys cycling. Matt is currently undertaking a Masters in Oncology.
- Alan Lack BSc BVSc (Hons) CertAVP(SAM) CertAVP(VC) MRCVS graduated from Bristol University in 2006 and became a partner during 2013. Alan has a particular interest in medicine, cardiology and diagnostics and achieved the RCVS certificate in small animal medicine during January 2015 and the RCVS certificate in Veterinary Cardiology during March 2017. Alan enjoys traveling and SCUBA diving, has a Border Collie, German Shepherd dog and several Tonkinese cats.
- Oliver Wilkinson BVSc MRCVS graduated from Melbourne University in 1997 and has been with Dragon Vets in Cheltenham since 2000, joining the partnership in 2013. Ollie has a particular interest in orthopaedics having undertaken various courses in cruciate surgery. During 2009, Ollie fulfilled a long held ambition to swim the English Channel. In 2011 he became the fastest person to ever swim a lap around Manhattan! Ollie is married to the lovely Vickie, and their spoilt children are Tassie and Bart the Hungarian Viszlas. Ollie is currently studying for his Certificate in Surgery.
- Rebecca Maddinson MA VetMB MRCVS joined Dragon vets in 2014. She qualified from Cambridge Veterinary School in 1995. She has worked mainly in Sussex in a large mixed practice but has also travelled and worked overseas including in Kenya and in the US. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary work but particularly enjoys building relationships with clients and their pets. She has a passion for ultrasound and endoscopy and gained an additional qualification in this subject in 2012. She lives locally with her husband and three almost teenagers. In her limited free time she loves riding, playing tennis and running with her yellow Lab on the Cotswold Way. Rebecca is currently studying for her certificate in Small Animal Medicine.
- Toby Travis BVSc MRCVS graduated from Bristol during 2002 and quickly developed a keen interest in small animal practice. Toby is married to Emma Travis, an equine vet who works at the Dragon Veterinary Centre and has 3 children to keep him busy. Toby moved from London to Cheltenham during 2007 and came to us from Honeybourne Vets during September 2014. Toby is highly experienced in dog and cat medicine and surgery and provides a first class service to our clients.
- Tim Sandys BVSc MRCVS graduated from Bristol University in 2001. After 2 years of mixed practice in N.Somerset, he moved to Gloucestershire, where he has worked in small animal practice since. Tim joined Dragon Veterinary Centre in 2016. He works Thursday all day and some Saturday mornings, the rest of the week he is a “stay-at-home-dad” while his wife works full-time as a doctor. Tim enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, with a particular interest in cat and dog medicine and surgery. When not needed by work or home, you’ll probably find Tim listening to some loud music or at a music festival somewhere.
- Harriet Holmes-Pavord MRCVS. Harriet began her academic career at the University of Bristol where she gained a Bsc in Veterinary Pathogenesis and a MSc in Veterinary Parasitology. Harriet then went on to study Veterinary Medicine and graduated from Nottingham Vet School in 2015. Harriet returned to the South West in 2016 to work in small animal practice and to lead a more rural lifestyle with her 5 dogs. Harriet is an avid wildlife fan and in her spare time she loves to combine her passion for animals and for travel. She has been involved with numerous conservation projects over the years from Big Game in South Africa, turtles in Malaysia and Sri Lanka, Whales in Australia and Grizzly bears in Canada.
- Daisy Sutton BvetMed MRCVS graduated from London in 2015. After working as a small animal vet in North London for a few years, she and her husband Mark, also a small animal vet, decided to move back home and settle in Cheltenham. Daisy is mostly interested in small animal medicine but enjoys all aspects of veterinary care. Outside of work, Daisy enjoys long walks and beginners agility with her two dogs, cuddles with her cat and swimming and baking in any other spare time.
- Louisa Hayes graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2007 and has worked in small animal practice since then. She joined the DVC team in March 2018 having been working in Gloucester. Louisa enjoys all aspects of being a small animal vet but has particular interests in medicine and opthalmology. Louisa lives in Cheltenham with her husband, two children, two staffies and tonkinese cat. The majority of her spare time is taken up by looking after her two young children, but she also enjoys skiing and snowboarding, playing golf, baking and watching american football.
- Ruth Carroll MA VetMB PgC(SAM) qualified from the University of Cambridge in 2009. After working as a small animal vet in Northamptonshire for 9 years, during which time she studied for and gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine, she decided to move back to her home town of Cheltenham and joined the team at Dragon in July 2019. Ruth enjoys both medicine and soft tissue surgery, and in her spare time enjoys playing flute and piano, cinema, and walking around the Cotswolds with her (naughty) rescue dog Hugo.
- Amy Higgins BVSc BSc MRCVS graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2017 after completing an Animal Science degree beforehand. Having worked in Worcester for the first two years of her career as a small animal vet, Amy joined the Dragon team in July 2019. She has an interest in both medicine and surgery but is keen to expand her knowledge. Amy lives locally as Cheltenham is her hometown. She has a rescue Shih Tzu called Maisey, enjoys travelling and is a passionate Man City supporter.
- Megan Jackson BVSc MRCVS graduated from the University of Bristol in 2017. After working in Manchester for 2 years she decided to move back South to be near family and friends and joined the Dragon team in 2019. Megan enjoys the variety of general practice and in particular surgery. She loves everything outdoors and spends much of her free time exploring the countryside on foot, bike and kayak or travelling with friends to our national parks to enjoy some more dramatic scenery.
