We regularly use a ‘state of the art’ ultrasound machine with Doppler capabilities. Ultrasound is an excellent tool that enables us to evaluate your pet's chest or abdomen quickly and painlessly, often without even needing an anaesthetic. This has a number of advantages, particularly in older animals where general anaesthesia may be contraindicated. We regularly perform diagnostic procedures under ultrasound guidance such as:
- cystocentesis (sampling urine from the bladder)
- abdominocentesis (sampling fluid from the abdomen)
- fine needle aspirates from pathological lesions
This allows us to reach a diagnosis quickly and often without having to put an animal through surgery or even anaesthesia.
